This documentary by Sarah Kernochan and Lynn Appelle won an Academy Award in 2002. The film chronicles the life of visionary street-performer, S.K. Thoth, who prefers the term prayformance to describe his art. Thoth prayforms his soloperas in the language of the Mir, people of Festad, a mythological world Thoth has been writing about since he was a child.
Thoth describes his prayformance as, "part vocalizing, puzzle, aerobics routine, monologue, language deconstruction, alchemy, theater, healing ritual, sacred dance, all accompanied by solo violin and complex percussive rhythms. Having played music for many lifetimes, I am now a divine messenger using a violin."
That was beautiful. I don't usually watch long things on the Internet, it usually hurts my eyes, but this was so enchanting that a half an hour had passed before I'd thought to look at the clock.
Relatives stumbled upon him in New York, but had no idea what was going on. I was only able to explain who Thoth was to Egyptian mythology, but now I can forward this and it may answer more questions.
Wow. Thanks.
